Prof. Karthikeyan Srinivasan

Consultant in Anaesthesiology

Prof.Karthik Srinivasan works as a specialist anesthesiologist for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgeries. These include procedures such as hip and knee replacement surgeries.

I am a part of the prestigious organisation Critical Care Partners (CCP). This group involves highly experienced consultant physicians who work with anaesthesia, intensive care, and perioperative medicine.

After completing three years of anesthesiology training in India, I spent seven years on specialist training in Ireland. This, followed by subspecialty training in regional anaesthesia from Duke University Hospital in Morrisville,USA, further enhanced my professional anaesthesiology experience. My PhD from University College Cork, which focuses on “Neuraxial anaesthesia” which is commonly used in joint replacement, has provided me with the unique expertise in this area.

I am currently working as consultant anaesthesiologist at Tallaght University Hospital. I also served as president of the Irish Society of Regional Anaesthesia. I am a working member in various societies of anaesthesiologists, including the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland, Royal College of Anaesthetists, Uk, and Royal College of Physicians,Ireland.

An Anaesthesiologist is a medical consultant who works hand in hand with a surgical consultant to ensure a patient is asleep and stable while their surgical consultant focuses on what may be a highly complex surgical procedure.

  • An Anaesthesiologist will see a patient before their operation to discuss their general health, and the type of surgery they are about to have. Together, the patient and Anaesthesiologist will decide on the most appropriate anaesthetic for the surgery, and potential anaesthetic and surgical complications will be discussed at this time.

  • An Anaesthesiologist will stay with a patient throughout the operation. Afterwards they will transfer their patient to the recovery ward, into the care of a specialist recovery nurse. The Anaesthesiologist will also prescribe medications to control post-operative pain or nausea. A member of our team will be available 24/7 post-operatively, in the event that complications or problems arise after the surgery.

  • If recommended by their consultant surgeon, a patient may meet their Anaesthesiologist in CCP’s offices in advance of their admission for surgery.
